Occasional Thoughts

I'm always thinking, and sometimes I'm even writing.

Changing The Norm and Why I Love Lemonjello's

I'm at Lemonjello's (big surprise).  And I love it here.

I walk up to the counter with a handful of quarters and a small yellow punch card.  As one barista turns towards the counter, he reaches for a yellow mug.  The other barista motions to the yellow mug on the counter.  She already set one out.

In this fleeting moment I feel loved.  Both baristas know my "usual" so well that the cup was waiting for me once they saw me walk inside.  And now they're fighting to give me a yellow mug.

    And then I ruin everything.

I hold up my yellow punch card.  It's full.  And I want something other than my "usual."  So they put both mugs back and begin packing the espresso for my latte.

I changed the norm; I ordered something different.  And who knows what the results of these butterfly wings could be?  Next time I'll be sure to order my usual.

And that is (one reason) why I love Lemonjello's.
